Listed Renovation with Modern SPLENDOR
Renovating any property can reveal issues that can create challenges for construction, design and installation but when the property is listed this also presents its own unique needs and requirements. This property is a distinctive and much loved local landmark and is sympathetically being restored by the new homeowners. The kitchen was originally used as a stable and had also been used as the sitting room of the property but more recently had been converted into the kitchen. Our clients needed a bespoke company to guide them through the process of kitchen renovation and advise them literally from the ground up.

Transforming Spaces
We met our clients at the Homebuilding and Renovating Show at the NEC and having only just purchased the property, they were still discovering its idiosyncrasies! Of major concern for the kitchen was what might be found under the floor. Holme Tree were able to visit the property to meet the client’s builder in order to carry out some investigative work on the floor, remove the old kitchen and level and re-tile the floor. This provided a clean and level base for the kitchen to be installed.
The room is a double height and impressively timber framed space but its walls had bowed with time and really had never been intended for domestic use! As it is a listed property, the integrity of the fabric of the building had to be protected so installing a recirculating BORA XPure full surface extracting induction hob meant that we didn’t have to install ducting through the wall.
Due to the small windows and dark beams the clients opted for a light colour for the cabinets choosing Farrow and Ball’s Shaded White and Treron for the island. Illuminated display shelving creates a focal point on entering the room and provides light in what could otherwise have been a dark corner.
Bringing a listed property up to the standard required for 21st century living while creating a space that is sympathetic to the age of the building was carefully balanced through the use of fully integrated fridge and dishwasher; NEFF slide and hide oven, NEFF compact oven with microwave and Neff warming drawer. An integrated Kessebohmer LeMans Classic corner pull out enables full access into the corner base cabinets so no space is wasted and a hidden Wesco double bin also creates an uncluttered and classic look. An important modern convenience that was, in fact, the first thing to be purchased was a Quooker Flex tap which sits alongside the Shaw’s Brindle sink! It can feel like a milestone moment when you can make a purchase of something that is going to sit in your new kitchen and you can start to visualise what it might look like! Contact us if you are considering buying a Quooker boiling tap. We have fully working Quooker taps on display in our showroom. Come and join us for a cup of tea and we can show you how it works.
